The Class of '88 Reaches a Milestone

June 6, 2008

Congratulations to Northshore's Class of 1988 who are holding their 20th year class reunion this weekend in New Orleans. My older brother, Steve, who volunteered to help the reunion committee has been calling old classmates the past few months. Lately when he and I talk on the phone, he's been getting more excited to share with me the names of old friends he was able to get in touch with after all these years.

Many of the names he spoke of brought back vivid memories of faces I passed in the hallway, shared a class with, had a locker by, played alongside on the JV football and basketball teams. Names like Chuck Haaga, Jason Brown, Reggie Collins, Dennis Porche, Bryan Cox, Bobby Butz, and Dave Philips, all my brother's friends who I looked up to my first two years at NHS.

So much so that one particular day, I let my brother talk me into skipping school to go hang out at Bobby Butz house with the Seniors and then head off to the beach (Henderson Point). I mean everyone deserves a Ferris Bueller Day Off, right? So we got up and got dressed for school like any normal day. Then we drove up the street and parked the car so it could not be seen. We anxiously waited and watched for my Mom's car to pass as she went to work. Once the coast was clear we went back home to get a few a things then back to Bobby's house. Well, in our moment of defiance we forgot one small thing. When we got home we let our dog in the house and brought her towel in from the patio. Something my Mom would notice when she got home that afternoon. We forgot to put the towel back outside!!! Caught - we could only confess to our truancy and of course you can guess what my excuse was "Steve made me do it".

All my best to the Class of '88! Have a great 20th reunion.
